I was lucky to be attending one of the few art schools that taught the theories and composition of abstract art. After graduation in 1977 I settled in a conservative part of New England and I just did not have the confidence to paint abstractions so I thought I would experiment with the heart shape which is a universal icon. I thought more people would understand it. While painting the heart shapes over the course of 25 years I developed the confidence to paint abstractly and you are looking at one of my first heart paintings and my most recent abstract painting. What I have learned from this experience is that I do my best work when I step aside and let intuition guide me. Click here to read my story
